Here’s what we know about King’s Game season 2.
Will The Be King’s Game Season 2 – Canceled or Renewed
Unfortunately, King’s Game has not been renewed for season 2. The first season of the anime came out in 2017, and since then there has been no update regarding the renewal of the show.
As there has not been any official announcement from the Studio, it is unclear if the show is canceled or renewed. However, the only hope for fans for season 2 is that the last episode of season 1 ended with the words “To Be Continued“, thus promising another season.
The novel on which the anime is based has five sequels, and prequels, so considering the ending of episode 12 of season 1, it seems the show is not done yet.
Season 1 of King’s Game does have a good ending, and we know that Nobuaki Kanazawa, the protagonist will not be returning in the future. However, it also means that it gives the creators a great opportunity to play around with the story.
Most anime take years before making a comeback. In the case of King’s Game, the first season aired in 2017, and it’s been more than six years. The timeline doesn’t look that great as by now we should have heard something about season 2, but the Studio has been quiet about it.
There are plenty of factors that determine the status of the show like the source material, popularity, revenue, and sales.
Some other popular anime that are still waiting for renewal are Great Pretender, Yasuke, and Gleipnir.
King’s Game Source Material
The source material for most anime is the original manga or light novel series. The same is the case with King’s Game The Animation.
The light novel series is written by Nobuaki Kanazawa and has a total of 12 volumes. The novels continued from 20009-2015.
Apart from the novel, there are four different manga spinoffs. The original manga ran from 2011-2012 and has 5 volumes. Ousama Game: Shuukyoku ran from 2012-2014 with 5 volumes.
Ousama Game: Kigen ran from 2014-2016 with 5 volumes, and Ousama Game: Rinjou ran from 2015-2016 with 4 volumes.
Considering the manga, there is a lot of source material left that can be adapted into season 2 of King’s Game. The source material is not a problem.
What Will King’s Game Season 2 Be About
In the last episode of King’s Game season 1, Natsuko helps Ryou cut his legs using a chainsaw, and Aya tries to strangle Natsuko, but Natsuko kills her with the chainsaw.
Natsuko, Riona, and Nobuaki finally discover the truth that King’s Game is in fact an apocalyptic virus game, that does not end until all of humanity is dead. All of the classmates are dead due to the apocalyptic virus.
However, in the epilogue, a random student in Japan gets a text from the King that says the King’s Game has begun again. The episode ended with the words “To Be Continued”.
The second season will pick up from the text received by the kid. As the first season ended on a full note, the creators can pick any spin-off manga to adapt for season 2.
If the creators go with the next manga, Ousama Game: Shuukyoku, the story will be after seven months of the first game. Nobuaki Kanazawa is the sole survivor of the game and is suffering from trauma because of the loss of his friends. However, it all starts coming back when another round of the game starts.
Will Nobuaki be able to stop his classmates from drying this time around? And is he the sole survivor of the previous game?
In short, if we get another season, it’s going to be absolutely terrifying and amazing at the same time, just like season 1.
What Characters Will Be in King’s Game Season 2?
If you have watched season 1 of King’s Game, you will know that all the characters died, so it is difficult to know the characters that will come in season 2.
In the last episode of King’s Game season 1, a random person somewhere gets a text message saying the King’s Game has begun. So, if there is another round of games, we will see new characters.
This is a major spoiler, but if you have read the manga, not everyone died in the first game. So, we might be seeing some familiar faces in season 2.
