Hinomaru Sumo is a popular sports anime series with first season airing in 2018. Since then fans have eagerly been waiting for another season. Here’s everything we know so far about Hinomaru Sumo Season 2.
Hinomaru Sumo is a great choice for anime lovers who are fans of WWE. The anime series is a mix of love, sports relationships, and sci-fi.
The first episode of Hinomaruzumou “National Treasure Onimaru Kinitsuna” premiered on October 5, 2018. The show had a total of 24 episodes and Season 1 ended in March 2019.
The series is based on a Japanese manga series written by Kawada. The final of the manga was released in 2019 with a total of 28 volumes.
Since the end of Season 1, fans have been waiting for a new season. It’s been more than two years since the series ended. Here’s what we know.
Hinomaru Sumo Season 2: Canceled or Renewed
Even though Hinomaruzumou became very famous among fans, sadly, there is no official announcement regarding Season 2 from the creators. For now, we can assume that it will not return in 2022.
The production company and creators are silent about a potential Hinomaru Sumo Season 2.
Keeping in mind the impact of COVID-19 on production across the world, we can expect the season 2 of the show to get greenlighted this year and come in 2023.
It is not uncommon for anime series to get delayed as Free! The Last Stroke also got delayed and skipped its 2021 release, ending up airing in 2022 instead.
You can also check out the manga’s official Twitter page for details. However, its latest post is from 2019 and it shows that it has not been updated for some time now.

Despite the manga being so famous, the TV series did not get the recognition it was aiming for. Therefore, it led to a decent performance on the streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and Funimation.
Similarly, the Blu-ray sales were not the best as well. Thus cementing the idea that we will not be getting another season any time soon.
Although there is no news about a new season by the studio, there are more than 11 volumes left so there’s plenty of content to cover if the show gets greenlighted. You can read Hinomaru Sumo manga to see what happens next.
So, things aren’t over yet!

What is Hinomaru Sumo About
Hinomaru Sumo is a story of a boy, Ushio Hinomaru who has a single goal in life and that is to become a Yokozuna. However, due to his small height, he never seems to pass the physical test.
The only choice he has is to win the nationals and get a scholarship to the pros. Along with some friends, Ushio manages to reach the nationals where he faces tough opponents.
One of his biggest opponents is Kozu Sosuke, son of former Yokozuna Yamatokuni. To win the nationals, Ushio must defeat Kozu.
At the end of season 1, we see Ushio compete in the All-Japan National Championships where he loses to Tennoji. If we get a Season 2, we will see Ushio’s journey in the pro league as he struggles to become a Yokozuna.
